Have You Come to a Detour?

Have you ever gotten to a certain point in your life and wondered,
how on earth did I get here? What happened that caused me to arrive at this point?

This isn't where I was going. I was heading in a different
direction. This is not how my life was supposed be.

In some areas of my life I can look back and know the exact moment I was cut off and ended up on another path. At the time, the incident seemed less than significant, but that one little bump ended up taking me completely off track. It took me down a foreign road that I or my children were never meant to travel.

You see, when you are a parent, your children must go down that dark road with you. My heart aches now to look back at my travels knowing no matter how I tried to see my way clear, I was in darkness and thus so were my precious children.

In other areas, as hard as I try I can't figure out how I got off track or when the detour started, I just know something went wrong somewhere in my travel through life. Was it a harsh word, or look from someone I looked up to, or perhaps something one of my parents said over me as a child that put a harness of slavery on me? As hard as it is, I have to realize I may never know the real root of my detour. I just have to accept here I am, now what am I going to do?

I fully believe all my twists and turns come as no surprise to God. After all, He created me and His love for me has been constant, even when I was running my race on the wrong track.

He has always steered me back on course. Sometimes gently, lovingly and sometimes jerking me up ripping me out of a situation causing, oh, so much pain. But I understand had He not used force at times I would have kept blindly feeling my way down a dark and dangerous pathway never intended for me or my children.

I also believe we each come to a detour sign in our lives and are forced into making a choice. We can ignore it and plow ahead forcing our way down that same path to certain death, or we can choose to make the turn that saves our life and the lives of our children.

Choosing to turn with the detour can sometimes be the hardest act of obedience ever. We have to deal with our pride, our fears, our guilt, our shame, this list goes on and on. In dealing with each of our issues one by one, as we take the detour God has arranged for us, we begin to see a restoration of our life back to the original purpose God has for us. Generally not overnight, but in time. God's time.

In Galatians 5:1&2, Paul writes, "Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your Stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. I am emphatic about this. The moment any one of you submits to circumcision or any other rule-keeping system, at that moment Christ's hard-won gift of freedom is squandered."

Later in vs. 7 he writes, " You were running superbly! Who cut in on you, deflecting you from the true course of obedience? This detour doesn't come from the One who called you into the race..."

I don't know about you, but I do not ever want to squander the Blood of Christ again. I want to stay alert and stand strong keeping my eyes open watching for anything that is trying to deflect me from my true course of obedience.

Sound paranoid? You bet, I don't ever want to go down that road of darkness again. If I let my guard down for one instant something will try to knock me off my path.

My only words of advice are put on God's armor everyday, stand on guard, and pass me some coffee so I can stay alert!

Family Record

Awhile back I encouraged the members of the
Single Mother's group I was in to make a
Miracle Book.

I believe recording miracles for our children is the best way we can share our testimony with them.

Today, this minute they may not be interested in what God has done for us or them. They may be running from Him, or too little to appreciate some of the miracles you have recorded.

Someday this book will be a written testament of what God has done for your household.

Miracles don't have to be the huge, growing out of limbs kind of miracles to be recorded.

I have a LOT of Winks from God recorded. Everyday little things that may not mean anything to anyone else, but I recognized where they came from.

During my time of unemployment I have never, not once, run out of coffee. Now that may not seem like a big deal to you.......unless you are a coffee nut like me. Wink from God!!

Filling the book with Family Miracles will not only be good for you, by providing therapy inexpensively, but at some point will show your kids why you spend all that time on your knees.

Writing down the blessings, miracles, and winks from God in one place provides you with a written record of God's love and care for you and your household.

I have also found it a sorce of comfort, encouragement and strength.

When I'm feeling alone and discouraged I only have to look at that book and I have to smile and praise God for what He's done and what I know He's going to do.

How can we be discouraged when we have an entire book filled with things He's all ready done for us?

If you don't all ready have a Miracle Book for your family I encourage you to grab a notebook, scrapbook what ever you have and start writing. It doesn't have to be listed in order, just write the times you know God has shown up and shown off for you.

You can decorate it with stickers, pictures, or drawings, fancy it up or keep it simple. It doesn't matter at all, just get it written down before you forget.

Picture your children someday reading it and getting to know the testament of their heritage a little more clearly.

Telling all the wonderful things our Father has done for you and your household is one project you won't regret working on for years to come.

God's Promise Concerning My Children

I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams. One will say, "I belong to the Lord"; another will call himself by the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, "The Lord's" and will take the name Israel. Is. 44:3-5

The bookcase in my living room is full enough to give an organizer or interior decorator heart palpitations! It's full, full of everything.

To anyone else looking at it it's a jumble of books, old and new, pictures, old and new, trinkets, do dads, worthless items to anyone else but me.

To me that bookcase is a comfort. I look at it and see four generations of snapshots. Memories of some who've gone on to be with the Lord, my parents and twin granddaughters. I see my children, my "adopted" children, my grandchildren.

In one clean sweep I can stand before that bookcase and see almost everyone I hold dear, everyone I pray for daily. Some all ready in the Kingdom serving, and some running wild, yet destine to be a servant of the most high God.

God's promise to me is my Children. I wasn't a perfect Mom, but my prayers of salvation, blessing and restoration are ever before Him and I believe in His promise.

He will pour out His Spirit on my children, His Blessing on my Offspring. When I think of that scripture promise I get so excited. My Children, grandchildren, and future generations pre-destined to be His.

Through prayer, much prayer, constant prayer, never ending prayer God's Spirit will be on and in my Children.

His love and faithfulness, His promise of His Spirit and Blessing are not just for my children. They are for who ever stands on His promise.

If your Children aren't walking the straight and narrow today, take heart. God has a promise for you. It's the same promise He made me.

Start today and stand on that promise for your household, meditate on it, write it down, repeat it daily. Chew on it like it was a perfectly done steak!

And God, in His perfect time will honor your prayers and mine. Our children will run smack into God and have no idea what happened!!
