What Defines Me?

I've been job hunting since March 09, YIKES!! Seeing it actually written down is a bit depressing and yet what a time of God showing off on my behalf!!

Yesterday I received a response to a prayer request that was put out by a dear friend of mine, Marsha of Marsha's Musings. His question was quite different from the normal questions you receive from people who are interested in helping in your job quest or current living situation.

He asked me to forward my resume to him so he could see where my giftings are.

Giftings, job?? Not even in close proximity as far as I'm concerned.

I explained to him my career path was the result of regular moves due to my ex husbands corporate advancement and had nothing to do with what I am "gifted" in.

Thinking back on all the jobs I've held over the past __ years there have only been a couple where I loved what I was doing and I felt good about myself while I was at work. Both of them were jobs where I was helping others.

The first was when I was in Mary Kay Cosmetics. As a Sales Director I found I liked nothing more that my Monday night "Sales Meetings". I had center stage and always managed to turn them into a time of motivation and encouragement.

Nothing thrilled me more that seeing women dig down deep and realize their self worth and inner beauty. Not because they were selling skin care but because I could somehow convey to them they were priceless jewels in God's eyes. I did everything but have an alter call and I loved it.

On the down side, I admit sometimes the drive to keep the pink car overshadowed my family life. And there were times when I chose career over family all the while telling myself I was doing it for them, realizing now what color car I drove was more for me than them!

But what I learned was I love speaking to groups, the larger the better, and if I could encourage someone to feel good about themselves, change their attitudes and draw closer to God I knew I was doing something positive for the Kingdom.

My second favorite job was with FEMA. After Katrina hit I was hired, as so many were, to go to Houston and help people with their claims, finding housing, medical care, etc. We could even do searches to help find lost loved ones. Everyday I was part of a group of people who were truly making a difference. I hated the circumstances, but loved what I was doing.

My resume shows me as a retail manager. That piece of paper that I forward on to, or upload to a company site tells them nothing of me. Quite frankly I don't care what label you wear or what "color story" a particular vendor is trying to tell with their merchandising requirements. I do it because I can and because it pays or rather paid the bills.

So why have I said all this?

I guess it's because I want you to know your job resume doesn't define you. We are so obsessed by what do you do rather than who you are that we can totally miss the being God created because we are looking at or for the skills that create money to define you.

Next time you meet someone, rather than asking what do you do to get to know them ask them who are you, or ask if you could do anything at all with out limitations what is it you would be doing.

A job description doesn't define a person, their hopes and dreams buried deep within is what will tell you what kind of person you are facing.

After all Jesus was a carpenter, or was He?

Dear Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

I am not going to turn my blog world into a forum for debate, however I apparently wasn't clear in my last posting about Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays.

So, in an effort to make my beliefs crystal clear to you and anyone else reading this, here goes.

As a Follower of Jesus, I choose to remember and celebrate the birth of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 25.

He was not born on Dec. 25, nor does it matter what day He was born. It only matters that He was born, that He is the Son of God, that He is the only way to the Living God.

John 14:6 says:" I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Celebrating His birth is not a "race" thing, it is a "Believers" thing. Believers come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and nationalities.

Everyone celebrating Christmas as we know it is recognizing the birth of the Savior of the World, whether they openly admit it or not.

His birth is the beginning of me being able to kneel at the foot of the cross and have my sins washed away by His blood.

I don't know about you, Anonymous, but I have a past, I sinned. Big sin, little sin and anything in between. If it were not for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (hence the term CHRISTmas), I would be sentenced to eternity in hell, separated from God, our Creator.

But because of Jesus, His birth, life, death, and resurrection I am able to live a life that is free from guilt and condemnation of my past. I am free, I am free!

I am celebrating my Saviors descent into this world. His birth into a world consumed with sin and disease. His birth, which was planned to lead to a horrible death just for me.

Quite frankly, I don't care about celebrating anything else on Dec. 25 or during this season.

I don't care if someone is offended by my Merry Christ-mas greeting

I don't care if someone thinks I'm being exclusive by not embracing the "Happy Holiday" mantra.

I just don't care....

I only care that, my savior was born and I am still free to celebrate His birth with child-like abandon. And I only wish you had that freedom too, it's glorious.

For you, Anonymous or anyone else out there reading this. If Jesus is not your Lord and Savior it only takes a second to invite Him into your heart. To allow Him to bathe you in His forgiveness, mercy and grace. Our past is of no consequence to Him, He loves and forgives anyone who asks. He's waiting with open arms.

When you've been forgiven, and you have been adopted into the Kingdom of the only true God, you realize with every passing year how much a privilege it is to celebrate His birth.

Thanksgiving, New Years, July 4th, Labor Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, etc. are Holidays.

The day we celebrate the birth of Jesus is a Holy Day, not to be lumped in with the other days we get off work.

Christmas and Easter are far beyond tinsel on a tree or an Easter egg.

I, for one, refuse to, for the sake of Politically Correctedness, lower either of these celebrations into something less than what they are. The Jewish celebrations would be included in my list of Holy Days, since they are the foundation stones for my beliefs.

So, my dear Anonymous, you can have all the Happy Holidays you want and never utter the words Merry Christmas so as not to offend. But, I will shout "Merry Christmas come celebrate the birth of my Savior", as loud as I can, as often as I can so everyone can hear and know HE IS LORD.

Blessings and Merry Christmas!

Battle Gear, Breastplate of Righteousness

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place. Eph.6:14NIV

I think a strong case of false humility is my biggest problem with the Breastplate of Righteousness.

My first thoughts are, oh I'm not a righteous person, you don't know my past.. Completely forgetting there is only one who is righteous.

God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that IN HIM we might become the righteousness of God. 2Cor.5:21.NIV

The Breastplate is designed to protect the vital organs from injury during a battle.

Being IN JESUS, is the only way we can strap on the Breastplate of Righteousness. HE is the Righteousness that protects our vital organs during battle.

To hold the Breastplate in place we use the belt of truth.

Knowing the Word of God will allow us to understand who our Righteousness is, and that truth will firmly hold Jesus next to our hearts for protection against the enemies attack.

When the enemy goes after our mind we have the Helmet of Salvation covering our heads, when he goes after our body, we have the Breastplate of Righteousness, Jesus, to protect us.

Two more pieces of the Battle Gear God designed for us to wear daily to protect us from anything the enemy has to use against us.

When we feel alone we need to remember He has designed the perfect Armor. He knew what we would need and designed our Armor to fit us individually for maximum protection.

Our God is not only with us in battle, HE IS OUR PROTECTION.

If God is our protection what can man or any evil force do to us??

As long as we "Suit Up" daily in Him, we have everything we need to assure victory.

In case you are wondering, I took the photo at the Holy Land Experience in Orlando.
